Ryan Klesko
Multifaceted Gemini Ryan Klesko was born on June 12th, 1971.
Gemini is an intellectual air sign, so it's fitting that Ryan
is bright, curious, flexible, and eager for new experience. Although
his attention is sometimes fleeting, restless Ryan, the eternal
student, grasps ideas quickly and craves novelty. A social creature,
Ryan has a strong need to communicate and interact. He's no fan
of those who limit personal freedom. Mischievous Ryno likes to
exercise his mental and physical powers, and is happiest swept
up in some sort of commotion.
Independent and freethinking, Ryan's mind works in an intuitive,
nonlinear fashion, with sudden bursts of inspiration. Since he
prefers to taste everything, concentration and disciplined study
may not be his strong points. He thrives in a fast-paced atmosphere,
with work that involves movement, travel, and variety. The baseball
life suits him to a tee. A real go-getter who relishes competition,
self-confidence and follow-through make Klesko a winner.
Ryan often does the unexpected to stir people up out of their
ruts. He can be impatient, even defiant at times, abounding in
brash, erratic energy. Not one to back down from a fight, Ryan's
part in spring training brawls resulted in a four-game suspension.
Philosophical Ryan reflected, "I did what I had to do and
he did what he had to do, and it's over with." An earlier
bad boy image had Ryan's walk up music blare "Bad to the
Bone." Focused on recognition and admiration, willful Ryan
likes to get his way. He's fascinated with authority, yet rebellious
towards it-a paradox that holds the potential for great leadership.
His impatience with regulations reveals a strong, unconventional
side, yet enigmatically, hints of the conservative appear as
well. For one so fiercely individualistic, learning to balance
the need for security with the urge for freedom and experimentation
is an important life lesson. Chameleon-like Gemini represents
the sign of the twins: changeable and dualistic. Just when you
think you have them figured out, they diverge! Gemini energy
is flirtatious and insatiably curious-forever wondering who's
up next.
Possessing a far-reaching outlook, daily routine gets far
too dull for Ryan. He's inclined to travel, daydream, or fantasize
on a grand scale. Times of retreat or meditation can help soothe
Gemini's nerves, as they seesaw between optimism/faith and doubt/limitation.
It is this willingness to embrace variation and to undergo deep
transformative experience that gives Ryan a boost. He's also
socially oriented and active in community affairs. Ryan's Mars
in humanitarian Aquarius has him championing the underdog. Progressive
and democratic, he's the consummate team player, always willing
to lend a hand.
A fan favorite, signed through the 2004 season, Ryan Klesko
is thrilled to be returning to the San Diego Padres, after a
reign with the Atlanta Braves. Ryan exclaimed, "Playing
here is a dream of mine, and I feel that this club is really
on the right track to get back to winning." Ryan led the
Padres' surge in May of 2001, batting .354 with 11 home runs
and 40 RBIs-the best stats in all of baseball that year, and
the most ever by a Padre in a single month. He gets himself in
favorable pitch counts by being highly selective. Expeditious
throughout the hitting area, he unleashes a mighty force. Most
power hitters are not usually speed demons on the bases, but
Ryan has the best of both worlds. Blessed with a captivating
blend of pulse and power, Ryan hit 30 homers and stole 23 bases,
leading all major league first basemen in stolen bases. Only
five other Padres have recorded 20-20 seasons. A consistent power
threat, Ryan has socked at least 20 home runs in 5 of the last
6 seasons. When asked to describe his style of play in an earlier
Braves magazine interview, unwavering Ryan shared, "You're
only in the game so long, why not play hard when you're here?
I'm not here for style points-I'm out there to play hard."
Fearless in the face of pressure, Ryan hit .333 with runners
in scoring positions-just the guy you want at the plate when
the game's on the line! He's confident in the clutch, possessing
a mighty swing, nimble bat, and a razor sharp eye for balls and
strikes. He doesn't run low on style either!
After building power numbers last year, Ryan stole 23 bases
in 27 attempts and appeared in his first All-Star game. Continuing
his potent offensive, he's the 6th Padre to hit 20 homers and
steal 20 bases in a season, and to also hit 30 homers while driving
in 113 runs (most ever by a San Diego first baseman). As variety
is the spice of life for Gemini, adaptable Ryan continues to
patrol the outfield, equipped with a far-reaching arm that easily
traverses the expanse of Qualcomm.
Ryan Klesko provides colossal left-handed clout-a perfect
balance to right-handed hitter Phil Nevin, in a walloping three-four
punch for the San Diego Padres. This summer Klesko's reputation
continues to build, as his star power on and off the field also
rises. He's got charisma, an appealing openness, and the fluid
Gemini ability to become all things to all people. In the prime
of his career, and shining in the limelight, Ryan Klesko is truly
on a celestial peak!
